What is GtK?
Good to Know was originally inspired by a series of encounters between our team and various people in our travels. Time after time the conversation would reach a tipping point when someone revealed some core fact or another that turned out to be a mystery to the other person. Usually the confused person was one of us. This is called "knowledge bias," and refers to an unintentional tendency to assume that other people understand the various topics that you are an expert in. It is unconscious- it kind of just happens.
These little tidbits began to really pile up, and led to a lot of research to verify everything we learned. It was getting so hard to keep track of it all that we decided to write them all down and put them online for the rest of the world.
Many of these conversations initially revolved around China and the Stalinist world (and the socialist elements within them)- and US Domestic Policy that resembles those regimes. We’re a little biased against them based on personal experiences, so the first go-round on the site deals primarily with these topics. But we aim to expand our focus to as many areas and interests as there are people with questions about where the world came from, how it works, and where it is heading. Some topics "in the works" are: The Global Financial System, US Healthcare System, Artificial Intelligence, Care-Culture, Modern Society's "soft spots" (vulnerabilities), Sexuality Today, The Byzantine Empire, Islam's Golden Age, The Ottoman Empire, and Cool Stuff the Mongols Destroyed.
Our goal is to stimulate your mind, not to hurt your feelings. Trust that we honestly want everyone to prosper and live happy, healthy, and nourishing lives. We simply hope that when you look at our site you’ll come away saying,
“Hey, that is really good to know!”
We Love Feedback
